Lew LFS speed spool gen 3 review

Featured Replies

There doesn’t seem to be a ton out there about these reels. I’ve been fishing it a while now.

palms very well for me

Casts well at about 5/16 and up

Excellent spool capacity

Good casting knob control

The way I palm the reel though I unknowingly constantly make small adjustments to the casting brake dial. All of a sudden how ever many casts later my casts lose a ton of distance. I check in at max. So i periodically have to check it and re adjust. That’s my biggest gripe with the reel honestly.

My biggest gripe. The drag. If fishing treble hooked baits, it's fine, although I'd still put a carbon drag washer in it. For something with a big, single hook, like a jig, Texas rig, or a spinnerbait, I'd like more drag.

Doesn't it have 15 lbs?

I believe so. The things are a winch if locked down. Gen 2 or 3

On paper, yes.

the quality and performance in the reel is not like the gen 2, i bought one but it will be my last.

I can’t argue any of that. I got mine on clearance at fleet farm for just under $100. If I’d paid the full $139 I’d be pretty upset. I like the accel rx basically same reel but not an aluminum frame and they recessed the brake adjuster to where my palm won’t change the adjustment. I may try one of those

The reel actually palmed pretty well and was smooth. I may try one of the paramag breaked ones eventually.

I don’t have many complaints. I liked the old bigger paddle knobs better. And I don’t like how when I palm it. It slowly tightens the brakes. Obviously the way I palm a reel and the way the adjuster is. But it’s annoying lol
