Bottom Up or Top Down?

Featured Replies

When threading the fishing line through the eye of the lure do you:
1. Run it through the eye from the bottom up?

2. Run it through the eye from the top down?

3. It depends on the kind of line?

  1. It depends on the lure?

  2. It depends on the technique to be used?

  3. It doesn't matter?

What about lures with a vertical tie? Then you have left right. And what if you use a snap? Then you have to tie the snap and the pick which way to put the snap through…

It doesn’t matter. I would say the only exception is a drop shot so that the line coming back to the rod is up or exposed while the line to the weight is down.

For treble hooked hard baits I run it from the hook side.

For single hooks run it up from the point side.

All regardless of line type, size, strength or technique

In my entire life I've never even paid attention to that. Luck of the draw on which direction I pick said lure up.

Well, what got me thinking about it was tying on a jig today, which has the eye fixed vertically, and wondering if it made a difference in the motion of the jig when I wanted to hop it across the bottom.

Top down when tying Sand Diego Jam.

Jeez, my head hurts enough contemplating a dozen or more other things.

One question; Which side is the bottom? If you turn the hook over, is the bottom then the top? Wait, that's two questions.
