Casting a MH Rod

Featured Replies

I have a Medium/Heavy (trigger style w/ baitcaster) rod that casts like a broomstick.  I usually sidearm the rod instead of using an overhead cast because the rod is not very forgiving.  Any suggestions?  Is it improper technique or just a brick of a rod?

First of all make sure that the lure weight you are casting is within what the rod is rated for. Don't try to cast 3/16 or 1/4 oz lures on a rod rated for 3/8 - 1 oz, for example. Usually rods cast the best with lures in the mid-range of what they are rated for. Also, make sure the line you are using is within the recommended ranges. Is your casting reel properly adjusted? hope this helps.

gridiron,

Hot n Tot is right on. What's the rod length, line rating, lure rating? What are you trying to cast with the rod. Is the reel set-up right?   :o
