Hook size for YUM Buzzfrog

Featured Replies

Looking at the new owner hooks that have the screw in pegs near the eye. Going to be using them pretty much for frogs and frogs only. What size should I grab for the Buzzfrog which are abour 3.25" long according to BassPro. I was thinking 3/0.

PS: Don't worry Brent I will be getting some of your toads as well.  ;D

The YUM Buzzfrog hasn't been workin to well for me lately, just can't get the action I used to get on it. Maybe its because Ive been using size 4/0+ with it, and when I got the good action it was with a size 2/0 hook. The only prob wit a 2/0 hook is the hook up ratio greatly decreases >:). So Ive been using the Stanley Ribbit, and thats been performing well, and it has great action with a 4/0+ hook. The only thing I like better about the Yum Buzzfrog is its a bulkier bait so it causes more of a water disturbance I think.. Although Im not going to force myself to use a 2/0 to use it. Also it would swim on its back about 50% of the time, I rarely have that problem with the Stanley. So Im sticking with the Stanley  ;).

When they came out a couple of years ago they put 2 hooks in the packages. They were 5/0 actually. This was at Dick's in Florida.

I do not know about Yum buzz frog but for the zoom horny toad I use the 5/0 frog hooks with the screw at the top.... They work awesome

5/0 Gammy EWG or a 5/0 Zoom Horny Toad hook works best for me.  As long as you don't hook it through a leg, it shouldn't affect the action any.  You'll also get better hook ups with the larger hook.

Use the owner 5/0 with the screw in thingy that is similar to the Zoom Horny toad hook. The Horny toad hook is 5/0 as well but I believe the owner hook is A LOT sharper. I bought a 5 pack at Gander Mountain for $4.99. Horny toad hooks are $1.99 for a two pack so they are basically the same price. I have been really impressed by the hook penetration on the owner hook.

I like Owner twist lock 4/0 and 5/0 as well.

Work well with 6" senkos too
