Fishing Coincidences

Featured Replies

I haven’t seen a thread on random chance creating a funny or interesting fishing related experience recently. So I’ll start with my story.

About 5 years ago I was selling a ‘17 Destroyer FMJ. I found a buyer who was willing to do a straight up trade for a St Croix Legend X. I happened to want the rod so we agreed on the deal. I received the SC in perfect shape, but he received a one piece rod in three pieces. He was awesome about I and I covered the cost of the SC. Just USPS being USPS with gear that was nearly impossible to replace at that point.

Fast forward to ‘24 and I got an opportunity to take a job with JHUAPL in MD. My wife and I headed up from TN to give it a shot. While there I asked on this forum for any active fishing clubs in MD looking for co-anglers. Lo and behold Fish On Bass Anglers of Maryland was looking for some folks. (Side tangent these guys were amazing. I fished with a bunch of them and they all were fantastic people.)

The second to last event I fished I noticed the owner of the boat had a ‘17 FMJ rigged on the deck. I brought up those were nice sticks, and he said he loved his… but the first one he traded for ended up broken in the mail. Yeah it turned out it was the same guy. Somehow we ended up pairing up on chance to fish that event.

Shout out to Adam for being a good dude then and now.

Everytime I go fishing at a lake where the bite has been phenomenal, the bass shut completely down. The next day when I am long gone, the bass start biting better than ever. I have always wondered if this is just a coincidence, or if maybe I should take up golf.

If you only go golfing one a week,it's cheaper than bassin, at least it is for me. I reserve it, golfing, for those post front, bluebird, wind out of the east days. I s)@k at it, but I rather go 110 (38 over par) than get skunked on the water. Nobody expects me to even crack 100, but my fishing buddies expect me to catch them when no one else is.

Everytime I go fishing and happen to lose a lure or two, I get home and there is a monkey sitting on my couch with a Bass Pro Shops catalogue open to the page that has the lures I lost. Very strange coincidence.
