revo sx or stx

Featured Replies

I have fished Abu Garcia round reels all my life and I have decided to try a low profile.  I will be using it on big stripes(20-40lbs) in a creek, about 11-15 yards wide.  My question is would I need a stx for this or could the sx handle casting and fighting those big stripes in the creek?

Either of them.  Even the S model will do that.  These aren't like the round reels... they are lighter, stronger and smoother.  Any of the Revos will outperform the round reels...  but it will take you a little time to get used to the profiles- I was a 20 year Abu round reel only guy until 2 years ago and it felt strange holding anything else for a few weeks.

I am referring to the CI's, C3's, 4's and 5's when I say "round reels."  I can't speak to the morrums or the records, never owned those.

I'm with flechero.  Either one will do.  I have six of the SX model and love 'em, but I fish for largemouth 99% of the time.  It really depends if you think the STX is worth the extra $50 bucks....or in my case, the extra $300 bucks.  I felt that the extra money for the SX over the S was justified (more bearings, external brake adjustment, etc...and it's black...cool), but I couldn't justify the extra bones for the STX.

Either way, you can't go wrong.  I've tried all three and they're all great reals. :o

I would buy the SX and put the extra money left over toward a nice rod. I got a SX this year and I'm very pleased with it. Hope my input helps. BTW nice fish!! Good Luck

I own several of each model Revo's and in my opinion the SX is the best deal.....although the S model will hold the stripers just fine, like flechero said.
