Little more help on the line issue

Featured Replies

Ok, now I'm mad at Berkley but not because of Fireline but XL. My line got hung in the crease of my finger and snapped when I casted. I lost my Live Pointer. I haven't been using Fireline long but it seems to be doing ok but have some Yo-Zuri #6 on the way and think I'll also try the Suffix braid unless yall say don't do it. That being said what lb test should i go with if I use Yo-Zuri or Suffix on my reels. I have the Mitchell 310X, 308X, and 300X reels. And btw RW if I like the Yo-Zuri you'll get a thanks then. Peace out fishing fans.

The Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 is 11.9 lb test. I recommend using this line on all of your spinning tackle. Use it for a while to see if you like it. If you do, try #12 (19.5 lb test) on your baitcasting gear.

Thanks again RW. I guess if it can handle those two your holding up it's all good. I'll let you know about my experience with it when it comes in.

Are u saying that 6# has the diameter of that, or it just holds up that strong?

Im down in the west coast and down here Yo Zuri is something people dont use as much. Its kinda popular but most people i have met and talked to dont really use that.

Im willing to try it on my baitcaster i have a curado 100, so i was wondering what the diamter would be for those lines u mentioned.

I have tried sufix elite and siege. To me they work fine i get  very good casting with them. ON your spinning gear sufix elite works better because its just a little smoother. Has very low memory but then again you get a little stretch but the line is very strong, i lifted branches and moved my boat before snapping the line.

Never tried yo zuri so cant help there.

It is equivalent in diameter to 6# test, but has a breaking point of 11.9 lbs.  It is a great line for spinning tackle.

Well, let me clarify a couple of points:

What I REALLY meant to say is Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 for spinning gear. In use, this line has virtually no memory. On your first few casts you may have some coiling from storage on the reel, but this disappears after a few casts.

I have been fishing #4 Ultra Soft on one reel and #6 Ultra Soft on another for more than a year. Recently I purchased some new originial Hybrid because it was on sale at BPS, 1000 yards for $6.88 (btw, it's still on sale). The original formula has some memory, but in these diameters, very little.

The #4 has a diameter of .009", #6 .010". Here are the specs:

i got it thanks, so it has a little thicker diameter then other lines so thats why you guys use light line.

This is how maxima runs  4# line has a .07 diam. and 6# has .09 diam. I'll give it a try on my other curado 100 to see how it works.

There is no industry standard for the diameter of a given pound test. Yo-Zuri is about average and exactly the same as Ande Premium. I only note Ande because it is so well recognized as "the line" for World Line Records. However, .009" for #4 is one of the reasons I have gravitated to that size. It "seems" stronger than the 8.5 lb rating, is VERY abrasion resistant and slightly less visible.

Once I use up all of my #6, #4 will be my choice for spinning tackle going forward. But for most fisherman, I think they would be more comfortable with the additional security offered by #6. For this reason, I will continue to recommend #6.

yea, Im down in southern california, i can see how different our fishing is to the east coast. Our lakes are very different then out there. Most lakes here contain trout and catfish, bass is exceptional, but a few lakes down here are actual bass lakes but its a little drive to get there, but when ever i do go its great. Thats how i got hooked on bass fishing, im sorta new to bass but been fishing since a kid and saltwater used to be my favorite until i hooked my first bass.
