Looking for a new rod / reel combo under $100

Featured Replies

Hey guys, my fishing style revolves around weightless plastics...

I'm using a 6"6 ML Tourney Special from BPS IM7 Graphite rod and a Sedona 1500FB reel..

I'm not sure if my rod is ok for this type of fishing, but the reel I just don't feel too good with...

I fish wacky rigged senkos 90% of the time fishing, the other 10% consists of a Zoom Super Fluke, Trick worm, and occasional Trigged with a light bullet weight...

What would be an idle combo , or if the rod is good , what reel would be best...

Thanks for the help guys!

BPS combos are your friends ;)

For $100, you can either get Shimano Spirex or Shimano Sahara and a Bionic Blade Rod.  For your applications listed, I'd say to get 2500 series reel and a 6'6" or 7' MH rod.

Even better, if you can save a few more bucks, the Stradic/BPS Extreme combo can often be had on sale for $140.

Chris's advice seems good to me as well. The folks at BR convinced me to pick up the Stradic 2500 and BPS Extreme 6'6" MF at the last sale. Definately a great deal if you can spring for it. Think of it as getting an awesome reel an a solid rod for about $20.00. Then, when the bait monkey strikes again, you can then focus just on a specific rod.

By going MH, you'd have a serious Bass rod and a ML for finesse & fun.

BTW, my combo casts a country mile with a 1/4oz Rat L Trap.

Cabelas also has a couple interesting combos based upon their Tourney ZX (Daiwa Exceler) or the Pfluger President reels in your price range.

Cheers

Got a Cabela's Tourney Trail IM7 6' with an Abu Cardinal 502 for around $90.  I does the job quite well.  Though above 6' in length the rods are all 2pcs for this combo:'(.

Not top of the line, but I got a good deal yesterday. I picked up a 4600C3 & a Lamiglas CC703 for $100.79. ;)
