Cast control brake substitute!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, long time reader, first time poster, GREAT info on this site....

Anyways, I went out on the lake today w/ my buddy and I let him try out my Daiwa procaster tournament baitcaster. Getting to the point, it was very windy out today and long story short, he lost the cap to my cast control brake!!! So after a failed search effort, I'm wondering on how I'm gonna replace it. I wanna know if I can just switch it out with something like a hex nut....not sure what size though. Anyone experienced this before? Anyone know the size I should get? Thanks for any help  ;)

HEY FIRST OFF welcome! I hope you saved the reel warranty and such. There should be a schematic of the reel with a part number for the cap. You will have to order it from the manufacturer. Or you will have to call them for the part number. Stuff like this happens to all of us! ;D

Ahh, I don't have the manual or anything like that. Anyone know where I can get the schematic?? I think I'm gonna try just going out and buying some kind of closed face hex nut....?

Call Southwestern Parts and Service, and for a couple dollars, you'll have a new part mailed to you.  I've been using them since the late 80's and have always had great service.  The regular nut you want to buy will not work.

ten bucks might be alot for a small plastic cap but you arent using a cheap reel either. it might be worth it to just suck it up and buy the cap. then give your buddy a big guilt trip about how much it cost to replace it :'( maybe he will help you pay for it....... 8-)

by the way you wont find a nut to replace it at any hardware store, the threads are not the same. not even close. trying different sizes will damage the threads because they are made of either plastic or maybe aluminum. not steel. then your reel will be useless :-[. wouldnt you be embarrased if you had to spnd 60 or 70 smacks on a new reel or more just because you didnt want to buy a 10 dollar cap........

What about asking your friend to contribute?

If it were me who lost it, I wouldn't even consider NOT replacing it.

Thanks for the tips guys but to be honest w/ you, I'd rather bash it into fine pieces w/ a sledgehammer than shell out the ridiculous $8.50 shipping charge for a tiny piece of plastic that could be mailed in an envelope for <$1. As for making my friend pay for it, it wasn't his fault. He's new to baitcasters and he loosened it too much and the wind blew it away.

Anyways, i don't even think that the part from that website would even work w/ it. The part on their website is from the '80's! I have the newer version which is located at:

http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=91122&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults

I contacted the guy I bought it from and he'll probably send me another one after he finds it in his inventory.

Thanks and happy fishing ;)

Your right that cap isn't going to fit that reel, it was made for BPS by Daiwa® and the company probably wouldn't support it anyway.

Regular price $49.99
