BPS Johnny Morris rods?

Featured Replies

What about Johnny Morris rods from BPS? I'm liking the looks of the Fuji Recoil titanium guides. Anyone tried them?

Re-read the BPS write up....

The Johnny Morris Signature Series Trigger and Spinning Rods use the Fuji® New Concept Titanium guides...

The Johnny Morris Elite Series Trigger and Spinning Rods, carry Recoil® guides but they are not made by Fuji®...

REC® is the guide maker that makes the Recoil® guides.

Most of the anglers I have built rods for, that have purchased rack rods with Recoil guides didn't like them because of the singing noise they got when the rod was under load from fish fighting.

Tight Lines!!!

here is what you got. the recoil guides will bend if you step on then or some other way of breaking a guide off of a rod. all it is, is a piece of coiled wire on the blank that can facilitate bending and not breaking like a spring. hence you have recoil guides. they do not have the insert like most other guides because the insert isnt usually flexible. the hardness is what gives them the ability to create less and less friction on your line as you cast. if your guide inserts were soft and flexible the line would cut into them when under a load. if you are rough on your gear then the recoil guides mat be your best choice. if not then then the regular one will be fine and quieter like mech said. aside from that the morris line of rods are just as good as any other high end rod and are a bargain when compared to loomis and others

RECOIL® Advanced Guide Technology

REC introduces a revolutionary new material for fishing rod guides. RECOIL guides are made from a special nickel titanium alloy with unique physical properties which provide exciting new possibilities for fishing rod designers worldwide. Until now, fishing rod guides have been plated or have used ceramic inserts to provide wear resistance. RECOIL guides are made from an extremely hard but flexible "Shape Memory" alloy, which does not require plating, cannot corrode in any environment, and returns or "RECOILs" to its original shape after repeated deformations. RECOIL guides are available in snake, single foot, and stripping guide styles for fly rods. Or RECOIL guides are available for spinning and casting rod designs.

if your guide inserts were soft and flexible the line would cut into them when under a load.

Think about that statement and then ask yourself this question... Are Recoil guides soft and flexible?  If your logic holds, then do you think the REC's will hold up?  Only time will tell.

So far the only bad reports I've heard are the tip tops grooving, but the recoil guides are still new and no one has any multi-year data on them.

I have a couple of the signature series rods, and I like them a lot. When they're on sale, they are a lot of bang for the buck. I've not tried the elite series. A friend of mine has a Loomis with Recoil guides, and can't stand it. He hates the noise. I fished it for part of a day and loved it. The noise did not bother me; it was cancelled out by the awesome sensitivity. I'm still trying to buy it from him.

To get back on thread, I'd suggest trying out a rod with Recoil guides before you buy one. The signature series rods, with Tic guides are as good as can be had, in their price range. I don't know if the step up in price to the elite series gets you much more than the noisy guides.

Cheers,

guide and line noise is one of my biggest issues that i hate.that may be the reason i have not bought a rod with recoil guides.as i've said before,i think the johhny morris signature series with titanium sic guides compares to any other rod made.
