Flo-blue Trilene XL vs Green CXX

Featured Replies

Are there any disadvantages to using 8 lb Flo-blue XL.  I mainly fish soft plastics and spinnerbaits.  I picked up some 8lb Green P-line Cxx and had the hardest time seeing my line, which I really don't care about with spinnerbaits but I am having issues learning how to fish soft plastics and need all the help I can get.  I also lost 5-10 feet of my cast which is important where I fish. BTW I fish onshore in heavy bottom weeds, with the biggest of my 3 bass I've caught being 3 lbs. Any other suggestions?

It is critical to be a line-watcher when fishing soft plastics, so don't give up your ability to do that. Most of my strikes with soft plastics are detected by seeing the line move off to the side before I feel anything and I set the hook when I see that line movement.

Trilene XL is considered to be a line with above-average stretch, so that could impair hooksets. However, I've used that line and executed hooksets OK. There are also people who think the fluorescent blue might deter strikes due to its visibility. I don't believe that, but others do. Maybe the best thing is for you to continue what you're doing if satisfied, if not, ask for recommendations for other lines. I'd personally use at least 10#, but again, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The only thing XL and CXX have in common is the name "fishing line", they are completely different animals. XL is extra limp nylon monofilament while CXX is resistant to abrassion bonded copolymer ( core of nylon covered by a sheath of fluorocarbon ), they behave completely different.

Put in other way, XL is like a personnel carrier, CXX is like an Abrams tank.

Which one of these would you recommend for someone trying to learn soft plastics? The CXX or the XL?  Maybe even some 6# CXX in clear?  I looked for some Yozuri ultrasoft #6 or Roadwarriors recommendation but could not find it locally.  I am prety much stuck to Wal-Mart, Dick's, and Sports Authority.
