Eeeek!  I need to tips on Fluoro

Featured Replies

I've decided to try fluoro.  I've got a 6' light action spinning outfit that I like to use with very light spinner baits - mainly for panfish.  With mono it's sort of hard to get the lure to run at the desired depth without adding some weight.   So I decided to take some advice from this site and try fluoro.  I picked up some 8# Seaguar Invizx.  The diameter is thinner than the 6# mono I've been using.  I've spooled my reel and I have to say I am quite worried about how things are going to turn out.

I'm not used to fluoro and this stuff seems like wire compared to mono.  I knew it would be at least a little stiffer, but holy s**t.  It's seems extremely stiff and springy.  I didn't fill the spool to the same extent I did with mono and this stuff quite happily jumps off the reel.

I'm not critisizing the line because I know a lot of people like it and are successful with it.  Nevertheless, I have a sense of impending doom given the way its handling before I even fish with it.

What's the learning curve on this stuff?  Anything I should keep in mind, know, or try to make this venture a success?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Stick with the InvizX. It is hands down the best line...not just fluoro...that I have ever used. I will never use a different line with my spinning reels and even my finesse/crankbait baitcasters. Stick it out and get used to the fluoro feel. You will not be disappointed.

you should have put the spool in HOT water before spooling it on.secondly you should get some kvd line and lure spray.it DEFINATELY HELPS!!!i am using 10 pound on a 4000 size spinning reel with no problems.

I use braid with a 10 ft 10# InvizX leader.  If I dont have a finger on it all 10 ft will jump off when i open the bail.  Not a broblem when you get used to it.

This months Bass magazine has an article on Flouro. KVD says he uses the line spray and adjusts his reel to adjust for fluffing of the Flouro..

on my baitcasters i was able to lessen the brakes after soaking the line in kvd spray.i tie the line to a post and back the whole spoll off by walking backwards and spray it as i reel it back on.it works great!!!!

After each fishing trip I get my kid to take hold of the end of the line and walk off about 100 yards then drop the line.  I reel it back on.  This really helps with line twist that adds up during the day on my spinning rigs.
