Knot of the Month

Featured Replies

I was in a waiting room today and picked up a Field and Stream. Apparently they have a regular feature on knots. The one this month was called World's Fair Knot. Dupont (Stren manufacturer) had a contest for the 1982 World's Fair and this knot was the winner. It's kind of like the Palomar in that the line is doubled on the eye of the hook but simpler because you don't have to go around the bait or hook. Has any of you heard of this knot and is it worth trying? I thought I'd give it a go round...

It is an easy know to tie but it only has a 65 to 75% breaking strength. That isn't very good.

Compair to a Palomar knot that is 98%.

I was still here when I saw you had answered. That was about all I needed to hear :'(. I was hopeing for something better because of what you said about it being easy to tie. Same thought I had. Heck, the Trilene Knot has better rating than that I think...

Man, there shouldn't even be any question about what kind of knot to tie. PALOMAR ALWAYS!!! lol ....at least for me anyways. You'll bend the dang hook before the palomar breaks and i think it is incredibly easy to tie.

I use the palomar knot myself but if I could find a knot where I didn't have to go around and over it (like maybe a Devil's Horse) I would give it a try. One of the reasons I joined this Forum was to find out things. If you aren't open to change some things could get kind of stale. I asked for an answer to something I had never heard of and got an answer from someone who's opinion I respect. Very few things in life are written in stone ;)...

Try this one if you want to experiment with a knot that's fun to tie, efficient and pretty!

I'm a Palomar Knot guy, but this one's something different and hasn't failed when I have used it.

Thanks for the link RW.  That's the knot I have been trying to figure out today I love this site! ;)  :)

I was watching bassmasters Sat. night and saw one of the guys tie an interesting knot.  From what I could tell, he went through the ring, held the tag against the leader, then swung the lure, a crank, around the tag end; he literally swung it around about 5 or 6 times.  Best I could tell he then took the tag and ran through at the bottom, then back up through the loop and tightened down.  What interested me about this knot was that he talking to the camera the whole time and tied it in about 5-8 seconds.

After watching this I played around with it some yesterday and about had it figured out.  I was taking it back through the ring and was not tightening up as nice.  Very nice knot.  Not sure of the strength, would think it's pretty strong.  Really like this knot.
