line question

Featured Replies

i have an abu cardinal c101 at the shop getting cleaned....it will be paired on a M/F 6' rod...the max line rating for it is 8lb test...i plan to use this set up for two things....weightless senkos and hybrid striper fishing....now if you have caught a striper before you know that they fight hard and deep and they hit the bait like a freight train....does anyone have a line recommendation that will satisfy both of these applications?  i usually use 8lb XT on the cardinal for LMB, but dont know if that will stand up to the stripers.....i have heard that braid is no good for really hard fighting fish?  also i am not fishing around any heavy cover or anything and line visibility is not an issue

any help is much appreciated

thanks

Nothing wrong with the XT.  Stay with what works.

If you're fighting them in open water and cover isn't an issue, 8# line should be just fine.  Since the rod is rated for 8# test it should also be able to protect it. The reel's drag will have to be up to snuff though.

To give you some perspective, there are folks in my area that land 30 plus lb King Salmon on 6# test. Have fun and go get 'em! ;)
