i picked up 2 old Ambassadeur reels today at a garage sale and was wondering if anyone could give me the years of these units. one is a 5500C and is stamped 751002, the other is a No. 5000 and is stamped 947424.

If that 5500C is in good shape it would fetch a pretty decent price on Ebay.  That's a 70's model.

hey where are you seeing this stamped number? cuz i got a ambassaduer 5500C from my neighboor...he said it was old and he never could figure out how to use it so he gave it to me. on the bottom of the reel seet i see 84-2-86-87...is that it?

the unit looks more like 1974, it has a short handle with what looks like mother of pearl knobs(which are probably plastic).

thats where the # is on both these units.

why are the 5500C's going for so much? ive not done anything with it but i dont see what the attraction is.
