Pumped about my new Avid

Featured Replies

I want to give a special thanks to Infidel for pointing out that BPS sale to me.

Picked up the AS68mxf Avid and I can't wait to fish it.

For most that do not know this is the first year that I have really came back into fishing since I was 16 years old. Started fishing when I was around 3 years old. But women, booze, weed, and the wild life, put fishing on the backburner. I settled down around 22 with my new family. I'm now 27 and finally got back into the hobby that I once loved.

So I restocked on my worms/lures this year along with a new tackle bag. Decided to go cheap on the rod and reel this past year since I wasn't sure how much I would fish. Never in my life have I fished a decent rod and reel. I picked up a cheap Mitchel Outback combo from walmart for 30 bucks and thats what I have been fishing with this past year. Sure I have pulled in some nice fish but I also have missed some from the rod sucking major butt.

I have never fished a nice rod before so I'm anxious to try it out and see what the difference is. Now if I can talk my wife into giving me my Pflueger President before my birthday I will be set.

Now the bad thing is, that if I ever want to fish another rod I probably will not be able to go back to the cheapies as easily. The Mitchel rod/reel treated me good this year but I have a feeling that it won't even be in the same ball park as the Avid. Listen to me! I'm rambling because I'm so pumped lol.

Davis,

You should really enjoy that new rod.

As a builder I build on the St.Croix blanks, and they are nothing but top quality. I am currently working on a 3C68MXF blank, and they are sweet rod blanks.

Good luck and hookup on your PB with that new rod..

Good Luck & Tight lines!!!!

Definately can't wait to get out to the creek after those fall smallies.

Hopefully now I will be able to feel the gravel/structure on the bottom with this new rod.

That mitchell was useless in that regard.  ;D

I picked up the exact same rod two days ago at Dicks for $75 minus $10 coupon ($65) and a Shimano Stradic.  I've been fishing it the past couple of days and it is a sweet rod.  The extra fast action takes some getting used to but on hookset with soft plastic, this rod can drive a hook home in a hurry.

Anyway, enjoy your new rod.

My Dicks Sporting Goods is useless. They acted like they had no clue what I was talking about when I called them to ask if they had any St Croix in stock. They said there website has a lot more product than they do in the store. I was like.........you have got to be kidding me.......the websites rod selection is HORRIBLE.

Thats a heck of a good deal you got. I also have never fished an XF rod before so that will be new to me as well. Can't wait.

The Dicks stores here in Indy in general are great for getting sales but their staff is stretched between hunting, camping and fishing.  So sometimes it's hard to get a straight answer or a correct one.  I don't blame the staff just the company they work for.  I had to ask about the sale on the St.Croix rods because they were not marked and the salesman needed to confirm the price for me.  No harm done, I went home happy.  Sometimes it's good to just go into the store and ask.
