Power and action??

Featured Replies

I read the sticky and RW does a pretty good job sumarizing both but I am more interested in what specific lures are best suited for each action? Like what should you be using for an xtra fast rod, what lures for a fast rod etc....?? And what do you think is more important Power or Action?

Action.

I would go with action over power.

Your overall question has too many variables to give you a proper reply, in my opinion.

There are other factors to take into consideation such as the weather, water temperature, the tme of year, the time of day, water clarity, the wind, fishing pressure, the line you are using; the test of your line; structure; wood; the bottom; vegitation; grasses; water depth; etc.

I wish there was a simple answer to your query. I also wish there was a pill to help you lose 20 pounds in a week while eating ice cream and Snickers bars.

Sam, said it best "Your overall question has too many variables to give you a proper reply", there are other factors to take into consideration...

As a rod builder, IMPO you have to have both and they are equally important.

Tight Lines All!!!

Alright then tell me what YOU would use each for? There has to be a lure or specific situation  extra fast, fast , medium, mod.. etc.. is meant to be used for right??

I generally prefer Medium Power. This rating is powerful enough for fighting big fish and makes smaller fish more fun to catch. Light and medium weight lures cast better with this power rating, too.

Soft plastics and jigs REQUIRE a rod with Fast Action and a firm tip. Although this is not ideal for most treble hook lures, you can still fish everything with a Fast Action rod. For example, many guys PREFER fast action for topwater and jerkbaits. The same argument is made for buzzbzits and spinnerbaits. Personal preference is the overriding consideration.

So, I recommend Medium Power/Fast Action and a firm tip for an "all-around" rod.

Whats a firm tip mean? I thought that kinda went hand and hand with action? If not how do you tell a firm tip rod?
