i'm looking at a few reels,   the penn slammer and Spinfisher SSm series.

anyone have expierence with these reels?

I've always heard good things about the slammer series.  I have Power Graph V's.  Love them.  Great reels for the money.  I can use them in salt or fresh.

Both have been reliable stapel in the salt water scene for ages.. The new ones are not made in the USA , they are now made in China. I had a Penn rep tell me that they sent thier engieers over there to make sure that the reels were up to standards. He said that the reason they sent them oversees is because the old ownership had let the factory go down and it was cheaper to build a new factory than to upgrade the old. I not sure how true this info is. I was looking into gettting some Penns last year. I may still do it if I can find some of the older American made ones at a reasonable price.

The Slammers are suppose to be better than the SSM's, which are bigger offshore reels, the smaller SSG are around the same size as Shimano's smaller reels. Also the Slammers are metal where as  the SSG's are graphite.
