ABU Revo S vs Revo SX vs Revo STX

Featured Replies

I am sorry if this has been posted before.   I am new to the forum and the search function isn't returning any matches for me.

What I am interested in is how many folks own all three of these or two of the three and to give your impressions of how they stack up on the water.    I currently own one Revo S and I really like the reel more than most of my other baitcasters.    I am wanting to pick up another Revo, mostly for Frog fishing and buzzbait fishing.    I am debating which model to pick up, mostly curious if the STX is worth the near $100 premium over the S.

Thanks!

I don't have an S, but otherwise I have 5 Revos (2 SCs, 2 SXs, and 1 STX).  IMO, the SX is the best value.  It has the same number of bearings as the STX. The only other differences appear to the color and some trim.  My SXs perform every bit as well as the STX, and they cost $50 less.  And even though the STX has a nicer trim, it's debatable which looks better.  The SX is black - and gorgeous.

The SC is essentially an S model with a magnetic brake instead of the S's centrifugal brake.  The SC is sold only by Cabelas and is red.  They have been on sale for $79.99 and at that price were probably the best values in the reel market.  But their regular price is $129.99.  They are great reels and perform just as well as the SX (even though it has 2 fewer bearings).  It might be one to consider.

For those who have used the S and the SX/SC how big is the difference between magentic brake and centrifugal brakes? Is it worth the $50 bucks to step up?

Spend 30 bucks and step up to the SC, if I had to do it all over again I would of bought 4 SC's on sale instead of buying the S at full price and a SX for 135 bucks.  The SC is much easier to use than the S and there is no distinguishable difference between the SC and SX other than color.

I have an SC and SX and I agree with Pond Hopper there is no distinguishable difference between the two except the color. Both are VERY nice reels.

I have 4 S reels, 2 SC's and an SX.  They are all great reels.  The only real difference being the cast controls, magnetic vs. Centrifugal.  I've got 3 pins in and 3 out on the S reels and have rarely had to mess with them after that.  The mag controls on the SC and SX don't seem to make a lot of difference unless you crank them from one end to the other.  All great reels, as for actual operation, I can't really say the higher bearing model SC and SX are really better than the 9 bearing S model.  I've used them all this year and they've not let me down.

I took the plunge and bought an STX.    It should be here in a few days.      I didn't know about the SC model from Cabelas.     At $80 when it was on sale that was a raging bargain.    I'll order two of them when they go on sale again!

Really?  No distinguishable difference between the SX and the STX other than color and trim?  Anyone else find the same thing between those two?  In that case when I get mine I might as well get the SX for 50 bucks less, especially considering I'd prefer the black color to the silver...
