palm tree/fat ika need help

Featured Replies

I bought a bag of black/blue skirt and a bag of pumpkin/christmas skirt kinami palm trees. Yesterday afternoon went fishing with my buddy on his boat for 3 hours. I fished them weightless rightside up and upside down targeting areas that I would typically throw a senko at, and fished them similar to how I fish a senko. Is there a better way to use palm trees? I managed to get one hit, i landed that fish which was probably a tiny 14 ounces.

Nope.

Maybe the wrong day, wrong time or wrong place, but you fished them EXACTLY the right way. I fish the Fat Ika just like a Senko. The difference is the profile and action of the bait, but the presentation is the same.

I was having luck on a semi-slack line when the bait was dropping.

Maybe that will help?

thanks, I hope it was the wrong day, i was letting them fall on a slack line before slow-fishing them back.

I will give that a shot

I have won a few tournaments with the Palm tree, but the last two outings I haven't had a bite on them. I have contributed this to the changing in the weather and the lakes turning over. The fishing is slow right now in eastern NC. I love this bait because I can throw it anywhere I want to.

Ive noticed that the bite has been the slowest Ive ever seen it until last week.

I don't use the fat ika as a senko alternative.

To me it is a target specific bait that is best suited for undercut banks and matted vegetation.

The beauty of the fat ika is that when it is rigged skirt up and weightless,

it will swim down and away from the point of entry in the water.

It's so cool how it does this.

I have my greatest success with the ika casting it to the edge of matted grass and letting it swim down and under the canopy.

This puts it right in the nose of bass lurking in the submerged stems.

Killer bait.  You chose the two colors I use most often, so fish with confidence.

Good luck and have fun.
