How is it made?

Recommended Posts

Just curious on how rods are made.

Where do graphite come from? How is it put together? etc.

I'm wanting to fish for a living when I get older, so I guess i'm trying to soak up all the knowledge about my equipment as possible. You cant fish without knowing where your equipment came from.

I assume reels are just bunch bearings and mechanize things put together in an alumininum frame. right?

P.S. I'm not starting a debate on which companys some how gets the best blank. I'm just simiply asking where it comes from and how it's made.

If you check in at the Discovery channel, I think it's discovery.  There's a program that shows how lots of things are made.  One of their segments shows exactly how a graphite fishing rod is made from start to finish.  Very interesting.

The episode was about graphite fly rods.  It's available for viewing on Joox.net.  You may have to download the DivX viewer to see it (which is a good viewer to download anyways).

Here it is:

Wrong....(Never assume) They are miniature winches, and not all frames are aluminum. Some are graphite, some are titanium, etc.
