Scorpion minimum line size

Featured Replies

RW-others....Bought  a bulk spool of Ultra-Soft 6# with a line diameter of .10. Can this # and diameter work on a Scorpion 1000 4x4 svs baitcaster for shakey head fishing so I don't have to use spinning outfit? Are the spool-to-frame tolerances tight enough to keep line from getting behind spool?  Anyone ever use this set-up? That U.S. 6# is STOUT stuff! How bout this line on Curado 100B Reels? (better drag)

Thanks...SWIFF.

I have the Scorpion 1000 MG and have it spooled with 6 lbs Gamma Copoly and have used Ultra Soft as well with no problems.  That set up is basically my "spinning rig" as well. :o

The reel will handle Ultra Soft #6, but I don't fish light line on baitcasters.

Wellll...with gin-clear water and low water level/temp, it seems to be the only way I can get bit! I just roll the dice as far as getting 'em to the boat!  Thanks

The line is plenty strong enough, I just prefer spinning tackle because of what I consider a significantly superior drag verses baitcasting gear. I realize a lot of guys just don't like spinning gear, but I think it is a better tool for finesse fishing.

RW...The break strength is nearly double the 6# label and it IS tuff to break. Abrasion resistance may be an issue, but the chunky 3#'er on a Shimano 2000 rig sure came outta some gnarly stuff, but I'm so danged awkward w/spin I can't fight the fish for fighting the outfit. Gonna try reversing the handle and trying it w/right handed retrieve.

BTW, spooled up the Scorpion with the 6# and a Shakey rig and it felt GOOOOOD with the Crucial Med w/F tip 6'10" rod. Casted great too.  Still, I do think you're right on the mark about light line and drags on S reels, But I found out from this site today I can swap drag washers from the Curado 100, so gonna try that just in case I stumble on a toad and need the better drag to turn his head. Thanks for the advice/ SWIFF
