Rod/Reel Baitcasting Combo for beginner

Featured Replies

I am really thinking about taking a shot at baitcasting this year. I need a rod and reel that is good for a beginner. I don't want to go too much past $150. What are your thoughts?

Shimano makes a nice Citica. right now they have them with a $30.00 rebate!! So you're looking at about $90-100 bucks. I don't really know that much about cheaper end rods......All star makes some nice ones that aren't that bad. Also try Castaway and American Rodsmiths. But for the reel I would ABSOLUTLEY go with SHIMANO CITICA.

P.S. don't listen to Muddy Man ;)

id buy the best rod you could so when you get the hang of the baitcaster all you need to is upgrade the reel and youre in good shape. an All Star rod wouldnt be a bad idea with a daiwa procaster should give you good service for years.
