basicaly i wanna know what exactly this is and when to use it. i heard in a mag. that its for dropshot rigs but i've never heard of this befor

floruocarbon line first off is nearly invisible underwater, it has no stretch, and sinks rather than floating like mono.  If most of the lakes you fish are stained to muddy then regular mono will do the job, but if your fishing clearer water then flouro definately helps.  there is no point in using it for topwater however.  If you do alot of nightfishing you may want to stay away from it since it won't show up under a blacklight.  Also when you get a strike on flouro do NOT pull your rod down before you set the hook, or the fish will feel it and let go (remember it has no stretch) just set the hook from wherever your rod is when he hit's.

flouro carbon does stretch.it stretches when it reaches it's pound test limit.from what i have read it only happens once.i suggest seguar invizx.

Fluorocarbon DOES stretch. No line has zero stretch. Braid has very little stretch. Fluorocarbon has a lot more stretch than most people think. The amount of stretch tends to vary between different brands of fluorocarbon. In fact, some brands of fluorocarbon have more stretch than certain brands of monofilament.

Use fluorocarbon with sinking baits. Use them in muddy water too not because of its low visibility but because of its abrasion resistence.

I have had NOTHING to do this winter but read and study on line (BassResource.com) so here goes....

Here's what I have found. Flouro sinks, is nearly invisable underwater, has MINIMAL stretch, and is abrasion resistant. It allows you to use heavier test lb. line in clearer water. There's alot of talk about knot strength. I don't buy it 100%. Tie a good knot...it should hold.

Mono floats and is a good line for top water baits, poppers, and a good all around fishing fine. It hasn't been around forever for nothing...like any line (or any item for that matter) you get what you pay for. 3000 yards of Skippy Mono at KMart for $3.99....well.

Braid, which I "discovered" this past fall is strong, light, and good for "tough" conditions, working heavy cover etc. I plan on trying braid with a flouro leader this spring as suggested on BRS. I found it a lot easier to cast on baitcast reels, also new to me, which was fantastic and gave me more CONFIDENCE with the baitcaster. Braid is also VERY expensive. Several members here gave me a good braid tip. Start your reel with mono or flouro to fill the spool. Join the braid to the spool line with a good knot. Saves lots of line $$$$$.
