Would I be alright throwing swimbaits under 2 oz with a LP baitcaster? I despise round BCs for various reasons :

Line capacity is a concern when throwing these baits.  Often times, throwing 17lb + is needed, and on some low-profiles, it's simply not realistic.

300 size Curados are likely the best LP bet,  but I've heard of people using Revos.

I like the Revos for Swimbaits... good line capacity, good gears & drag, LP comfort and lower speed gears available if you want them.

I know a few of the better swimbaiters say the Revo line cap isn't enough but they fish differently than most people.... at least the non-Ca guys. I don't need or want to make 80+ yd casts. And I sure don't want to lug around and fish a big heavy reel. I've gotten really spoiled with 50 MG's, TDZ-BBS and Premier... Until I visit cali, I'll stick to lighter reels.

You can make many reels work, you don't have to go buy a new reel to throw swimbaits. You may want to if you become a frequent swimbaiter but I wouldn't blow the $$$ until you know if you "need" it.

I'm a firm believer that you can use any bait caster for anything you want if you know how to handle it and depending on the area your fishing. No need to change rod and reels for everything. Mike

Thanks   Ill probably either use my Zillion or my pfluger echolon. Im not sure which would be better for sb or spinners but Ill do some experimenting soon.

It would make for a good swimbait rod but im using it for heavier lures and some flipping/ pitching.

Who said you need to cast a country mile to use a swim bait? Watched a pro the other day on TV fishing swim bates with a 7' rod and a LP reel and slaying big bass. His cast were not more than 50 yards, Mike
