5 Fat Ika/Yum Mega tube questions

Featured Replies

1. Have any of you guys had a chance to compare the fat Ika with a Yum Mega tube?  From what I've read the Ika is the absolute crusher, but

2. what are the differences between the two?

Also, I know rigging these baits skirt up is a great way to fish them, but how is it rigged?

3. These 4 inch tubes seem to small to T-rig them weedless, is this true?

4.  Is your hook therefore exposed when you fish them?

5. Anyone have any pictures of a correctly rigged Ika or Yum Mega tube?

Thanks!

the Ika isn't a tube.  It has a solid body.

Exactly. I'm not sure what the Yum Mega Tube is, but if it's a tube, which it sure sounds like it is, then it's a LOT different then the fat ika.

I use a 4/0 hook with my ika. Killer bait.

I agree,,, the 4/0 is a better choice,,

the 5/0 is touch to big,

I also use my needle nose to slightly

open up the gap in the hook..

with the fat Ika being so fat. you can miss

some fish because the hook gap is full of bait,,

getting the hook as far to either end helps

because the bait narrows at the ends.

the fattie has ben a great bait for me this year,,

Hmmm. U ever try the owner wide gap plus 4/0. These are absolutely positively dynamite on a thick bait like those, and 2/0 3/0 great for tubes too.

I have not,,

will try to locate a picture to check um out.

thanks!

Fat IKA's are really great, but have any of you tried the "Big IKA"? It's just a tad longer in the body than the fat model. I've successfully rigged it on 5/0 EWG red hooks (reversed, of course!) and have been killing the bass here! It has just a bit of an end wiggle to it. Not sure if this is what's doing the trick or not, but I'm catching and I'm happy  :D.

Lightninrod has posted pics of some nice bass he caught on the Big Ika.
