There has to be some kind of tool to help get my line through the eye of my bait-casters.  Been doing some night fishing and it is hard enough with the sun to help, by flashlight it is even harder.  I have looked a Cabelas and BassPro, with no luck.  Any other ideas, or should I come up with my own invention. Then maybe I can retire and fish full time!

Basspro has some. BUT.....the reviews on the product are not very good.

I have the Bass Pro line threader and it broke the first time I tried to use it. The bend at the end of the wire is super funky and too big to fit into the bait casters guide. Instead of sending it back (it only cost $3), I just heated up the end of the wire and bent the end how I wanted it. A lighter, small pliers and 2 mins later it works awesome. Here's the shape I bent the end into.

Get a 'bobbin threader' from any fly tying shop or on line. I guarantee you will like it. Its a thin piece of wire shaped like an elongated diamond. Push it through the levelwind eye and push the line through the diamond and pull it back out.

That happened to me too! Geez I just thought it was a fluke.

Ok here is what I do, It doesnt need a tool and it is fast fast fast. Its a little confusing when you read it but when you see the pictures, it will all make sense.

First thing is to strip out about a foot or so of line and make a loop.

Now flatten the loop and string it through the baitcaster eye in reverse. In otherwords insert it where the line usualy comes out.

Now the eye of the loop will be in the spool area. Just open up the loop now. and place the tagend of the loop (end tip of the line) through the loop.

Now tug on the loop exiting the baitcaster eye, this will tighten the loop onto the end of the line a bit.

Now just yank the end of the line out the eye of the baitcaster. And finally pull the end of the line all the way out untill the loop is eliminated and you will have a threaded baitcaster without tools!

Just remember to pull the end of the line as soon as it exits the eye of the biatcaster.

Thanks again for the tips.  I think that I will try the bobbin threader also.  But, Vics idea is great when all you have is the real in hand.

That is a great idea.  No extra tools, and effective.  

why are you needing to thread line thru the level wind eye of your reel when youre on the water anyway? the only time i thread line thru that is when im spooling up, and i never spool up on the water.

but a bobbin threader for fly tying will work nicely for you.

dave lines can break at any spot with a back lash or other scenarios, its not unheard of to have to re thread line.

It's a pretty cool tip and I will keep it in mind when I need it. Good job!
