The Poor Boy's Silly Rabbit swim bait

Featured Replies

Ok I am so frustrated about Basstrix and I am not paying 30-50 bucks for a pack on ebay. I will just wait till next year when it dies down some. I tried and tried to call the number that Bassmasters came out with no luck.

For you guys that live in the Richmond, Va area... I was at Dances Sporting Goods in Colonial Heights where I came across these.......

Yes they are a knock off and I know it doesnt have the hollow tube like Basstrix but I was like what the hell, I dont have anything to lose so I tried them. I tried the Threadfin shad color at Lake Harrison in Charles City, Va. First time fishing there. I caught a bass on the first cast. I ended up catching 2 bass and a pike in about an hour. Here is a picture of one of them, They were small but it was fun.

lol,...it's not the original and it worked???  Without being hollow???  NO WAY!!!

It's my opinion that the fish are hitting the paddle tail action, not the paint job, sexy eye or the fact that it is hollow.  Any of these baits have the potential to nab the same fish as a basstrix.  JMO

Hype,....it's overrated,lol

The fact that the Basstrix is hollow allows for some interesting rigging options that are not possible with ANY other swimbait on the market. The ultra-soft plastic and flat sides give it a whole-body wobble that looks much more realistic than any sassy shad or storm swimbait. Maybe the paint jobs produce more fish, maybe not. I do know that realistic baits catch more fish more often in highly pressured waters.

I plan on buying some silly rabbits and giving them a shot, even though I will have to rig them differently than the way I'm used to with the Basstrix. I certainly hope that they will work as well as the real thing, but I doubt it! :D

Well I did manage to get some Basstrix Fat Minnows in, but they were not the Paddletail. I do have to admit the quality of Basstrix is amazing. The paint job is fantastic. Plus they eyes are undeneath instead of on top where they would easily fall off. I did have them fall off on the Poor Boys Baits. Cannot wait till the day I get a hold of the paddletail ones.

The paddle tails aren't worth $20 a pack, but are easily worth the price of $12 for a pack of 5 or 3 depending on size.

They swim like no other partly because of how soft they are, and also because they have the hollow body. The paddle tail plays a huge role, but I do believe that as of yet, they're in  a league of their own.

It's the tournament fisherman in Cali that are willing to pay $50 a pack...they have been key in several tournaments wins there over the past year.  If you are fishing for several grand...what's a measly $50 if it could mean the difference in a win?

The Bait Monkey just bit me! I ended up ordering a pack of the silly rabbit swim baits just a few minutes ago. I have no idea why since I am not entirely convinced that the swimbait is any better than the other baits I use. That being said, does anyone have any special tips on rigging or fishing these things?

The hooks that came with the baits totally suck, the nose slides off almost every cast. If you bought the 3.5 inch size I would use 3/0 or 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG Weighted Hook in a 1/16 oz like these.....

I caught all of mine fishing it like a spinnerbait and pausing it a couple of times, I noticed some of the strikes I got was when I did pause it. Hope that helps.
