Backing

You folks that use backing for more expensive line, do you use it on your spinning rigs to :-/...

I fish 14# braided line and use how ever much backing it takes to fill out the spool, regardless of which reel it is. Lately as I have been upgrading me gear I have been down-sizing my reels to compensate for the smaller line diameter. Depending on manufacturer/model, I have been transfering form #30 and #40 reels to #20's mostly. I've all but stopped using mono/floro.

I use backing on all my reels. BaitCasters and spinning. I have been doing this for many years. 8-) I have 18 rods in my boat so I save alot on line.

yeah backing makes a big difference in saving line. and it's quicker to reline.

Agree

I allways use backing.  For mono/copoly & fluoro I use cheap line one step heavier than the main line ( like #8 under #6 fluoro); for braid i try to be close to the braids diameter, maybe a bit heavier.

Is there a specific reason why you do this?

I use mono backing on all my reels, spinning or casting, that have braid spooled on them. I also plan on doing so this year with any reels I put flurocarbon and copolymer on, as this line cost's more than mono. I usually use Trilene big game 15lb test, it is a large diameter line that fills the back of the spool up quick, and is cheap. Plus it's a darn good mono line that I don't mind using if I have to.
