Berkley Spooling Station? ( spinning reels)

Featured Replies

I did buy this spooling station. And it works great on my baitcast reels.I just started doing my spinning reels, but I want to know if I am doing it wright! I put my spinning reel on and I have the spool on the shaft with the label facing the reel, is this the wright way? I have done two reels and before I do any more I want to know if I am wright? :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

Usually that is correct.....what you want to make sure of is that the line is coming off the spool in the same direction the reel is turning.

Some Shimano and Diawa reels have an anti twist on them. In this case you spool it like a baitcaster except have the line come off the bottom of the spool instead of the top. Be careful doing this because if the spinning reel is set upside down on the station that makes it backwards, I have these type reels and usually put the line spool on the station and the reel on a rod when spooling up my line.

I have the same style station, prefer to just lay my line through the middle of a book and spool my spinning reels.

I use this same spooling station for my baitcasters, but I lay the spool flat on the floor for my spinning reels.

I'm told by some line engineers that running it through a book ain't such a good idea.

I would assume that the dry line running between the pages of the book would cause friction related heat. As a result, it would weaken

the line. I have never tried it myself so I am just speculating.

X2.  The station works nice for casting reels but I found that it causes some problems with spinning reels and twist, especially if I'm spooling floro on a spinning reel.

This might be a factor (friction) if you're placing it in the 1/2 or deeper into the book. I keep it in the upp 25% of the book and at the speed I retrieve the line, I would say with confidence that friction is likely to  be a non-issue (negligible) if that is your concern.

From one engineer to others. :)
