baitcasters

Featured Replies

I have had trouble with my baitcasters recently, they just decided to backlash on me almost every cast. I did just respool them both, but I did stretch the line (mono) but it still backlashes on me. The brakes and magnetic cast mechanisms are set right and everything. Also I might add is I have been using quite A bit of rel magic on them. ANY help would be appreciated,

                thanks

My only guess would be because it's still new line.  Everytime I spool mono or copo I get backlashes the first 6-8 casts...

If that doesn't help, not sure... :-?

Maybe your thumb needs replaced.

It would help if you tightened up on the spool tension so that the lure will only drop about 10" very slowly if you shake the rod tip a little. Then tighten up on the brakes a little too. You won't cast as far but once it becomes smooth then you can slowly loosen things up again.

Some new lines just take a little braking in, Mike

Thanks you guys I think it was the line. I was using 10lb. trilene xt. Then I tried out my spinning reel, which had xl on it. I then put the xl on and now it seems to be fine.

I have found that my baitcasters seem to perform better with bigger line.  I have more trouble casting 10lb line than 14 or 17lb line.
