Anyone have any experience with this rod?  I don't own a Loomis but I love frog fishing and this may be the one for me to start with.

I bought one this winter but haven't had a chance to fish it yet. I was surprised at how heavy it is. It is heavier than my Crucial 7'6" heavy flipping stick.

I'm sure they are awesome, but I don't frog fish enough to justify the expense. I wanted a rod that I could use fo heavy flippin and deep structure jiggin as well. I'm sure the Loomis stick can be used for those applications as well.

If you want a great frog stick for less $$, I can strongly recommend the Crucial CRC-76H 7'6 H Action with a split handle. It's a round $140, very light, and super sensitive. It's technically their flippin stick, but makes a great rod for braid and frogs.

They have one specifically recommended for frogs- CRC-X72H, which is a 7'2" extra heavy.

If weight is an issue for you (see Pencil's comment above), the Crucial might make more sense, and also Diawa has a Frog rod in their LT series which is super light.

I considered the Daiwa but the pictures show a wierd material for the grips.  It may just be an illusion but I want cork dangit!

I've not fished this rod before, but I have heard the word "poolcue" used to decribe it numerous times. I haven't heard many good reviews on this rod.

I looked at the Loomis frog rod and thought it was way to heavy.  I have 6 Loomis rods and backed off on buying this one.  I use a Falcon for this application and it works fine.

I held one the other day and was surprised at how heavy it was too.  I did not like it and I'm a HUGE Loomis fan.

Go with the 7.5 flippin stick mossyback.  It's lighter and will work fine.

I was lookin at a Frog Rod the other day.I dont think its so much that there heavy,but they look heavy.They're a bit on the thick side,for sure.

Out of curiosity, I weighed the rods on my postal scale: the Loomis Frog rod weighs in at 6.9 oz., the Crucial flipping stick weighs in at 6.2 oz. and for comparison, I weighed my Falcon Cara 6'10" heavy (what I use for pitching) at 4.3 oz. The Cara surprised me, I knew it felt light but I didn't realize it was that light.

That is good info.  I wonder how much the Daiwa L and T weighs.  That is the one I am eyeing right now.

I went through this process last year.  I looked a the Loomis Frog Rods and decided against it.  I have seven Loomis rods but for some reason, their frog rod did not strike me as a great value.

I decided to start cheap so I went with a BPS rod, BNC66MHS.  I fished it through some real tough lily pads and I never regretted my purchase.  I caught a lot of fish with this rod last year.
