what kind of knot should i use for a spinner bait? I have a couple and I would like to use them but have no idea how to attach them . . .

also does anyone know a good technique for using spinner baits?

Well I use a palamar knot on everything.  It's easy to tie and strong.

I use the San Diego Jam because it is the fastest knot I can tie.

You can actually tie a Palomar knot and then, attach the spinnerbait to it. Bobby Murray showed me at a seminar. Very useful.

It might be difficult to explain without pictures but,  here it goes.

Double a good amount of line and start an overhand knot (DO NOT PULL IT TIGHT OR EVEN CLOSE) holding what would be the tag end in your hand,  reach through it with your thumb and forefinger,  and grab the doubled portion of the line (normally this would be the loop that the bait is connected to) and pull it through.  Hold the pulled through end in one hand and everything else in the other.  Place your thumb and forefinger in the doubled loop and spread them to spread the opening. (you must do this in order to "flip" the knot) (when you do it correctly you can actually watch the knot flip over) Drop the blades of the spinnerbait through the opening.  Pull tight.   Confused?

Tie a Palomar to a hook slowly and watch all of the motions and you will be able to visualize how it works without a bait on it.

In time it can be done in seconds.

what type of line are you using.

If your tying this knot before you place it on the lure how are you passing it through the hook hole and how can you have a loop to place over the spinner???  :-? :-/ Placing the loop over the spinner is just the normal way of tying the knot. Sorry I'm not quite understanding this but I would like to so I can give it a try. Mike
