Revo STX 6.4:1 or Castaic 200SF for Flipping?

Featured Replies

Assuming they were the same price, which would you buy and why? I just purchased a Shimano Crucial 7'11" Flipping Stick and need a reel to pair with it.

Thanks,

-Rob

I have two Revo SX's and I have never had a more accurate pitching and flipping reel in my life. They are incredibly smooth. I am sold on these to the point where I am going to work on having them on all my rods by the end of the year.

You couldn't go wrong with either one but I would leant toward the Revo mainly for the abosolute power that thing has.  The drags on those things are great.

STX BY FAR!! I have a High Speed 7:1 STX for my flippin, and it's all I could ask for and more.

I like a 7:1 better for jigs, and this setup doubles as my frog rod, which is the biggest reason I picked the high speed.

I've used the Castaic just days before I purchased my STX. The stx is smoother and fits in my hand WAY better, the 200 castaic is too bulky for my liking.

also, if you're like me, flipping into HEAVY cover , the drag on the revo is just awesome. I had a fish take out my drag on my Curado a few weeks back, scared me half to death as the drag was all the way tightened down.

Brokejw,

I had a fish take out my drag on my Curado a few weeks back, scared me half to death as the drag was all the way tightened down.
What kind of line? If you had a typical Cali fish hit you and you couldn't stop it with the Curado drag system tightened down all the way.... Then you need to fix your Curado' drags........or stop catching Sturgeon with a Curado... ;D

You can, however, catch sturgeon with a Revo with no worries.    :)

Castaic for me.  I love the Insta-Gage feature when I'm pitchin'.  My new Castaic is possibly the smoothest reel I own now.  Has more than enough drag for the fish I'm likely to encounter.  Yes, it's bigger than Revo but I'll put up with that and every other short-coming anyone can dream up.  Perfect pitchin' reel to me.

Ive caught Tarpon on a Curado 200DHSV with no problems.  The dartanium drag is in the same class as the Revo STX's.   The Revo does shine in its casting ability though, as long as you get one with the infinispool.
