plastics casting rod

Featured Replies

I have been using spinning gear for all my soft plastic fishing but I want to start using a casting set up now.  I have the reel already, a revo s.  I have found a couple rods I like so far and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them.  I am also open to suggestions on other rods.  The catch is that I only want to spend around $100.

Here are the two rods I have found so far:

Shimano Compre

6'10" MHXF

Falcon Lowrider Weightless Worm Special

6'7" MHXF

That Falcon rod is a good one, but it has a slower tip that allows it to load up easier for the cast.  If you are going to be throwing weightless Senko, Ika, trick worm, it will be the bomb.  If you are going to be throwing texas rigged and weighted baits, you may be happier with a rod with a faster tip (action).  The Compre look and feel nice, but I have not fished them so I cannot help you there.

It will be mostly for throwing t-rigged plastics with 1/8 - 1/4 oz weights.

A Bass Pro Shops Extreme or Pro-Qualifier 6'-6"or 7' MH . Both have very fast actions and are well worth the price I think they are on sale now. For t-rigged plastics the Pro would problably be slightly better as it is a little stiffer and faster. The Shimano and Falcons have more name than anything.

Amazon has some Fenwick HMG models right around $100 with free shipping.  (Sometimes they go one sale for even less).  *** will price match.  If your Revo S is a new purchase, you might still be eligible for the $50 rebate from Abu Garcia.  Cheers
