I can't speak to the Energy, but I have a JM Elite reel and I love it.

First of all, it's extremely attractive.  It's finished very nicely - inside and out.

Second, it has a very effective centrifugal and magnetic brake.

Third, it will cast very light baits very effectively.

Last, it has a good drag rated for a max of 14 pounds - more than you will need for bass fishing.

I am thoroughly impressed with this reel.

I also have a JM elite. I chose it for the centrifugal/magnetic cast control and couldn't be happier. For the money you can't go wrong with this reel. JMO

I have both, and I like them both, just fine.

The only time I would pick one over the other is very light weight baits. If you plan on throwing mostly very light baits, 3/16oz and under, go with the JM. The dual braking system can be adjusted to throw light baits effectively.

Cheers,

GK

I own both the JM Signature Series and the Energy PT. Both a good reels. I prefer the JM but you can not go wrong with either. Just as ghoti stated the JM is much better for lighter weights. I also have thrown down to 3/16 but could not with the Energy.
