rod and reel

Featured Replies

Does a shimano citica paired up with a st croix premier casting rod sound like a good all-around combo.

What lengh, and action is good for a all-around rod?

Double hand grip, or one hand grip?

The citica is a very well received reel here, and I certainly like mine.  I haven't used a st. croix premier so I can't tell you there.  I think that bps has a sale right now with citica/bps casting rod combos.  Fair warning, I haven't used any BPS brand rods either.

Rdub does a great job describing action and power in this thread.  He also lays out technique specific guidelines that are close to what most people use.

for most bass fishing a 6'6 med-hvy fast action will cover most applications. The Citica is an awesome reel I own 4 myself. As for the premier they are good rods I started with premiers and eventually stepped up to the Avid and I wont go back, the sensitivity is alot better imo and it feels a little lighter and the lifetime warenty doesn't hurt either. If you look hard enough you may be able to find the old model avids on clearance for around $100. good luck.
