Please Help With Line Choice

Featured Replies

im just starting to try my hand with drop shot/shaky head rigs. today i went to bps and bought a shimano saros 3000f reel and a shimano crucial 7'2 med action rod. im just wondering what type/size line most of you use for this kind of fishing? i was about to put bps xps 12# fluorocarbon on it and thought i should ask here first. thank you for any help.

Nothing larger than 8 lb. line.

You put that 12 lb. line on that reel and we'll be reading a nice whiny post in a couple of weeks about how flouro sucks.

can you tell me why? just curious for future reference. will the 12# have problems with line twist, poor action ???????? so far i love fluoro on my bc reels. thanks. btw, what movie is your avatar from?

Fluorocarbon line is stiff and retains a great deal of memory. On baitcasting gear, a lot of guys will put up with this issue for the stealth fluoro offers. With spinning tackle, the line has a tendency to jump off the reel, interfer with casting and occasionally develope wind knots.

Larger diameter flurocarbon is simply a hassel on spinning tackle. As an alternative, I recommend Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test). This is a bonded, not coated, fluorocarbon/ nylon copolymer. The line is as strong as 12 lb pure fluorocarbon, but retains virtually no memory in use. Ultra Soft is designed for spinning reels.
