Field and Stream Spinning Rods - Who makes them and any experience?

Featured Replies

I just got one when I purchased a Shimano Stradic from Dick's Sporting Goods. It came free with any reel purchase over $50. Anyone know who makes these rods and if they are any good? It's a 6'6' Medium rated rod (I assume both power and action). I was just planning on letting my son use it.

It's probably fine for your son, but I wouldn't be expecting a lot. Also, most rods that are just rated "Medium" refers to power. The action is pretty obvious, it's usually fast (stiff) or very slow (noodle).

RW, thanks.  I figured as much.  My son likes chucking crankbaits so the rod should be fine for him.  I'm curious how sensitive these rods are.  I think its built on IM6 or IM7 graphite.

I picked one up the other day just for S&G and landed a 4.5 on it using a spinnerbait. Rod held up fine but I haven't used it for plastics yet so I couldn't tell you about sensitivity. I would like to know who makes it as well.
