Texas Rig trick

Featured Replies

I found this trick on some guys review for slip bobber stops. He uses a bobber stop above the bullet sinker to hold it in place instead of using tooth picks. Just thought I'd share that little bit of info. Hope it helps somebody.

Have used a bobber stop below it too to make a mini crig of sorts instead of split shot.

I picked up some sinker stops from Bass Pro in hopes of doing this as well.

Dumb question......how do they work? They came in but I just threw them in the tacklebag because I won't be using them until next year. They came on some wires or something.

I've used Carolina Keepers from BPS for years.  I like them better since I can get them off easier.

Slide your line trough the loop in the wire, slide the rubber bobber stop onto the line... ;)

Thanks. One more dumb question. How do they stay on the line once you place them where you want them?

Got PICS I don't know what the heck you guys are talking about

No I don't have pics.

Just go to BassPro.com and search for sinker stops.

Been using them for a few months now.  The "stops" are made of a soft plastic(or rubber?) that grips the line when the stop is pulled onto it.  There is a small bead that can be used too.  The "stops" will slide on the line if you're using heavier weights but they do work.  You only need one stop for pegging a weight but you can use two for creating a mini-C-rig.

I don't have much experience with the T-rig, but I always thought that you wanted the sinker to slide up and down the line so that when the bass pics up the worm the line slides to thru the sinker, if its secured that bass feels resistance before you feel the hit and drops the lure. I guess not?

Yes but sometimes you want that weight up against the hook. Especially when fishing mats or just stabilizing a certain bait.

Most of the time I do have my weight go free. But when I want to punch through those thick weed mats..I want that weight hugging my plastic.

I want mine 'pegged' because of all the wood in the water where I fish.  If the weight is free-sliding, the weight and the bait can separate and get more easily wrapped around an underwater limb.

This is my mainstay for texas rigging.  Also if you put a stop above and below your weight you can slide the who weight forward to instantly have a mini carolina/mojo rig.  Just remember when sliding the stops to lube your line with spit and move them slowely.  They do cause some friction.  I have never had a break off because of this rig however.  Very weedless.
