Need a little clarification in regards to upgrading to ABEC5 Ceramic or SS bearings. We upgrade spool bearings to increase the speed so you have faster spool rotation to enhance casting. But have to tighten down our braking in order not to backlash?

So, why install faster bearings when the tough part is slowing down the spool to keep from backlashing?

So, I don't get it? :-?

PS. I still want to do it but dunno what for? lol

I would think you would get a longer casts out of it.  However, as a trade off you have to have a "smarter" thumb and be able to control the spool.

Yes, that about sums it up.

Less startup inertia perhaps? I think it aids in making the same casts we make with less effort on our parts.

I plan to get some bearings reel soon to see for myself.

A pair of ceramic ABEC 5 goes for 18 bucks... may be well worth investigating.
