The inside of my top guide has gone missing, leaving the fairly sharp edge. Do I need to take this to the tackle shop is or there something I buy that will snap in or what?

You can buy a rod tip repair kit at any tackle store.  Very easy to replace, and cheap.

It will need to be re-tipped. If it is a good rod I would take it in. You can buy replacement tips which will give you instructions and the glue to re-attach. In any case replacement is required.
