Cheap Wal-Mart Spinning combo

Featured Replies

This past weekend I came across quite a deal at wal-mart. I found cardinal 302 on a 7' Fenwick Venture medium action rod for 60 bucks. I was in the market for a new set-up so I picked it up and must say I am quite impressed.

Neither the rod or reel are top of the line but they perform quite nicely for a 60 dollar combo.

So if your a beginner looking for a good starting set-up or need a decent spinning combo for an even better price I suggest stopping in at your local wal-mart and seeing if they have any in stock.

Forgot to add that Abu Garcia has a 10 dollar mail-in rebate on all reels and combos at the moment.

Not a bad deal. At the moment though Cabelas and Dicks (?) have a couple of nice deals in the down and dirty pice range. I think it was Dicks that had a shimano Sedona on a Shimano rod (compre? for $40 (?) Cabelas has the $79 Prlueger Medalist on sae for $59.

Those are some decent gear for decent prices.

I do like the look of the Cardinal as well

The Shimano rod is most likely a Scimitar or Sojourn, not a Compre.

My local Gander Mtn. has a lot of combos at what appear to be good prices.  Fenwicks w/ Abus, Pfluegers, some Gander Mtn reels, etc.  Would like to pick up a couple.

I just picked up a quantum accurists on a quantum tour pro rod for 63 bucks at gander this weekend.  It was sitting on the rack that said clearance. Jay (truffle) picked it up complaining that is what he paid for his reel alone, so when asked about the model numbers cuz i didn't know that 500 and 501 where just left and right handed. So I picked it up and kept shopping, come to find out that they had the same combos for 150 bucks but they were gold reels instead of the blue.  I got home traded jay out of his left hand model b/c i love lefties and he hates them.  Just my lil bargain story of the week.

That  Cardinal/Fenwick combo is pretty sweet. I held it in my hands at my local Wal-Mart and it had great balance. If I had $60 at the time I would have picked it up.

The deal Dick's is running right now is $44.98 for a Sedona/Convergence combo. Thats pretty hard to believe since the rod is usually $40 and the Sedona runs $50. I checked out Dick's online flyer and from the picture and description I don't think thats a Sedona. Different handle and only 3 ball berrings. It might be worth taking a trip to the store to see the combo.

Thanks for the clarification. I kind of didn't think I had it right but couldn't remember what it was for sure

Looks like a Sedona to me. They've only got three bearings and if you google Shimano Sedona you'll find a bunch of them with different handles.

Looks like a pretty good deal.

No, the Sedona has 4 bearings, 3 ball type and 1 roller bearing.  There is another reel that Shimano makes, looks about just like the Sedona, even is gold colored and it only has 3 bearings.  Can't remember it's name right now but Wal-Mart here where I'm at sells it for $40, $10 less than the Sedona on average.

Just got back from Dick's with my new Sedona/ Convergence combo  :) I needed some more hooks and figured might as well go to Dick's and check out that combo. $45 for a $50 reel and $40 rod, not too shabby. You guys may want to check it out  :(

X2!!  I picked up this combo at a BFL in March.  It performs beautifully and does the job.  It does great with a jighead worm and split shot rig.

Dick's also has a Daiwa Capricorn 2500 spinning reel matched with a St. Croix 6'6" MF Triumph rod for $99.
