Dock Skipper choices

Featured Replies

Im considering a new spinning rod for dock skipping because I cant pry my custom Lamiglas out of my 6 yr olds hands.

I love my new Loomis rods but noticed some real nice alternitives as in the Kistler "dock skipper", Powells 6ftr and others. Any thoughts from these users would be great.

Thanks.

Artic Cat,

I use a medium heavy 6'6" spinning rod to get under docks, piers, trees, bushes, wood, anchored boats, etc.

I would think the length of the rod is more important than the name brand, but I would think the higher rated brands would produce a better product.

My Bass Pro Shop spinning rods and my St. Croix spinning rod work beautifully when skipping my plastics, jigs or crankbaits. I use the 2500 Shimano Stradic spinning reels and they work beautifully.

Let us know what you buy as I may want to upgrade my spinning rods this winter.  Thanks for your input.   :)

I skip with a St Croix Avid 6' Med/Fast spinning rod, it's great and by far the best rod I have ever used for this technique. I like to skip with 20lb braid, tied directly to the hook in weedy and/or stained water. In clear water I will  use a 15lb flurocarbon leader.

I use a 7' BPS extreme, and I can skip anything I can throw with it.  That being said, a shorter rod would work better especially in a boat.  You do not want to slap your partner with the lure as you side arm one towards a dock......(not that i did that or anything, nope, never happened, gotta prove it, no pictures were taken) ::) ::)

i was thinking the same thing cause i am fishing the back of the boat(co-angler) and the motor kept getting in the way,so what i am going to do is get a Daiwa triforce shorty rod,it's only 3ft,so i should have no problem skipping now, their not much money at all 15.00 tops.
