Honestly, as far as rods go i really cant tell the differance.except maybe for the wieght.10oz's compaired 3oz's. But for the reels,it is a compleatly differant story!but i think where most of your money is spent on high end reels is twofold,who made it,and WHERE! because a JDM(Japanessedomesticmodel) IMHO is ten times better than an export! or the same reel thet WAS made in Japan and now it's not made in Japan anymore(Daiwa BG/SStournament models) because it is going to cost more for a reel that experianced hands made and one the was made by a "day worker". so your going to notice if the gears make noise, if there are pieces that do not "fit" right. an experianced workers hand can tell!whereas "joeblow"workers hand "feels ok to me", but it's not! and i think that IS worth more money.because in the long run your going to save money, i would rather spend 400-500$ for a reel that lasts 6-8 years than spend 100$ every year on a new reel! it seems i get yelled at lot for saying this but a reel that's made in Japan is worth it because it's the best! the fit and finish is better,the gears are smoother, better bearings/more bearings, less plastic parts. they are just better made reels! honestly i wish i COULD NOT tell the differance,save me ALOT of money

when i fish the BFL i take two spinning rods.{2500/4000} i have a tackle bag with two plano 3700 series {the big ones}and then i put all my hard baits in the planos and behind them i have all my plastics in plastic bags,senkos in one bag,worms in another.the bag also has side pockets that use for wieghts and the other side i put hooks. 5 powerbars and one canteen of water and i am good to go. i sometimes see guys with like 4 or 5 rods.a huge tackle bag : your a guest on someone else's pride and joy. i try to keep tackle and talk to a minimum. even though i only take two rods with me i have yet to be disappointed that i didnt take more rods with me. if you vary the tackle you take with you,keep it basic. some minnow baits,floaters and sinkers.some spinnerbaits,a few topwater,some jigs and trailers.you cant take everything with you so take the things you have CONFIDENCE in.on the FLW webpage there is a topic called the CO-ANGLER CLINIC with tips and tactics for the co-ang.

i have a Daiwa Tierria 6'6 med lite and a 6'6 med i use them both for large and small mouth with no problem. also have a St.Croix Triumph 6'6 ml,but the first time i set the hook it broke . they replaced it,but i dont trust it any more.but the Daiwa's i beat up and they still work fine.

the mono i like, well there four actually.Gammakatsu G-power co-polymer,Tectan premium,Stren mirco-thin, and the line i am using now is Sunline Bass special 3, i have caught many,many big fish all of these lines and never had a problem with breakage,though i would not reccomend the Tectan for salt water unless you respool every week,other than that it is great line in fresh water.

i've been using braid for a very long time,and i have yet to snap a rod. i have however,the first time i used braid, set the hook so hard that the line buried very deep into itself.since there is no stretch you should not set the hook like you would with mono,after a while you get used to using braid that you dont want to use anyhting else,hooksets are almost instantanious,just be careful not to rip the hook out!one more thing when using braid with no leader and you get snagged DO NOT WRAP THE BRAID AROUND YOUR BARE HAND! if you want to try and pull it free use something to wrap the line around(lighter,pliers,stick) or just cut it. how i set my drag when using braid i hold the rod in one hand the line in the other and pull, when my rod tip is almost even with the stripper guide the drag slips , i find this works best for me.

i also asked about this line before i bought it,nobody replyed.but i did buy it. dont like it! i put it on my exist 3000,omg! what a mess! then i put it on my steez 2508 even worse. this line,Daiwa said was made for both the Steez spinning reel and the baitcaster.i havent tried it on a baitcaster, but i am sure that would be your best bet.because on spinning reels it should not be used. tooo much memory,just jumps off the spool.

the post your refering to is on page 2. i never owned a capricorn,but i do like the Daiwa advantage-A. it reminds me of the Caldia kix.

first off, i didnt start this post to slam Daiwa or start a coup on Cabelas ,you can call BS all you want. DON"T REALLY CARE!the fact still remains!i bought two reels that were made in thailand, and i think they are crap,for reasons stated earlier,GO FIGURE!another thing is a have a JOB,dont have the time to drive 400 miles to bass pro/cableas in P.A.,so i order it from thier webpage,just like 1000's do everyday! i got my steez2508 from Cabelas,thing is awesome! now, on to shimano, yes thats right, i also had 3 stellas that in the begining they were ok reels, 1 did have a grinding problem,EVEN AFTER I SENT IT IN FOR REPAIR, did a whole disertation on tackle about it,AGAIN.YOUR POINT IS? >.if i am not mistaken a whole lot people have had problems with thier shimano reels as well,they are LYING TOO? sounds to me that we have some people out here for whatever reason like to take shots at people,well, keep reloading.I"M BULLIT PROOF!

oh, without question they are going back,i mean the whole reason i bought them was to compliment my steez 2508,which by the way i love! they/it, were/was supposed to be "steez" quality without the steez price tag, yeah right! because magnesium is pricey,they used carbon fiber resin. it's not a bad looking reel,just not worth the 270-280$ price tag,imho, so i quess i answerd my own question on how much do you have to pay for "made in Japan". a lot more $ than 270-280. which is a damm shame.

First let start by saying i love Daiwa reels! that being said, i just bought two "new" Fuego (spinning) 2500's i am so disappointed! 270$ bucks a piece! not made in Japan?huh? what the hell man! how much do ya have to spend to get something made in Japan today?anyway, i open the box,the first reel has got scratches all over the body not only that but it feels like there is a handfull of sand in the gears! the second reel isnt much better,less scratches,less sand though, now i dont know if these were used by someone and then sent back to cabelas or it just the fact that Daiwa's slippin, or that Daiwa reels made in thailand just suck!oh, one other thing i dont like, the fact that there is no bearing under the spool,just a bushing , again 270$!, there should be a bearing under the spool for support!the Quantum enegry pti has two!130$, go figure. anyway,like i said in the begining i love Daiwa reels,i just think that for the money, these Fuego reels should be a lot better,thanks for listening.

the cabelas prodigy spinner is a nice reel in the 2500-3000 range.79.99 it's a little more money but it's worth it(DAIWA)! the ugly intercoastel series rod are about 40$, i have one,i use it for both fresh/salt water, no problem.

if your happy with it, why care what anyone else thinks!i'm serious,you shouldnt care if someone else thinks your fishing pole is a "joke"why is it a joke? does it catch fish? does it make you smile when you do catch fish? if it does, then stick with it!and if someone does make fun of your equipment,well i cant express enough how that person is an A##hole! now, the only thing i would do is put differnt line on it,because the line that comes with premade combos usally is not that good.this way you know the line is new,new line could mean the differance between catching a fish and losing a fish!

on baitcasters not really,but with spinners,flouro usally just pops right off,whereas mono will not.most of the time i use a small sticker with the lb test and what brand. I.E.,powerpro,(pp)strensuperbraid(SSB) sunline (sun) alot of times they come with the line itself,the stickers,just putem on your rod and put clear tape over it so it will stay on longer.
