My walk the dog, prop bait concoction

Featured Replies

I think i'll call it the Bad A, cause that's what it is, not sure if anyone has ever thought of this but I've never seen it or anything like it. I can't find any prop baits that you can walk the dog with so i took it upon myself to create one and I did and it works great, The topwater bite has been on so what better time to try this. I took a standard Torpedo and reversed the tie loop from the head ofthe lure to the back part of it and moved the prop and back treble hook to the head so now when it floats the new front (old back) kind of sticks out of the water and when you twitch it, it now goes side to side and you now how a walking prop bait. Very simple takes 2 minutes, I suggest superglueing the threads when you rescrew the parts. Now i'm sure if one doesn't exist osmeone will trademark it, oh well, just sharing my ideas.

I know you said your prop is in front, but this is kinda the same thing....

Cool thing is, if Lucky craft and you are having the same ideas, I think you are on the right track!!!

well LURE wise the prop is on the front of the lure where the eyes and mouth are painted, but this it's still the back of the lure, you are now tying your line on the new front of the lure which was the back, so now the painted face, eyes and mouth are facing backwards instead of at you... get it? the lure is the same only you've turned it around so the skinny part of the torpedo is now the front, it's the same idea as the lucky craft, i haven't used that i'd like to see the different action in comparrison to the torpedo body.

You mention superglueing the screw eyes back into the bait.

Just as a suggestion, you may want to just cut the hook off the back holder and put a split ring on the old line tie to attach your hook.

That way you dont compromise the factory installed hardware and you still get the hook configuration you want.

That is cool. I did something similar to a popper, which is one of my favorite baits to work. I added a propeller to the tail and dubbed it my "popper-prop." She is hand carved and brush painted and here she is:

Mentioned it more than once :-[so I hope ya'll aren't bored with this. I've got a Dalton Special that I've had forever. It is a walking bait and has a prop on the rear. GREAT bait, it travels farther left and right with each jerk than anything I've tried. Don't think they make them anymore :'(...

What you are describing is not a lot different from the Crippled Killer bait, a prop on the front and back, and some of the longer models are capable of walking the dog.

Yo Trev.

Take a picture already.   :)

a local guy here that builds custom baits hooked me up with a similar bait, walk the dog/prop bait, i actually hadnt even tied it on and tried it yet so i really dont know how well it works

oh sorry avid,

I'll try to tonight, I'll get a picture of the normal way tied on and the new way I'm talking about and I'll bump the thread tomorrow

well i keep forgetting to take a picture so i just photoshopped one, here's what i was talking about...

it really works great, when it floats now the new fron end kinda sticks out so when you twitch it, it dives down and causes the walk the dog action...
