Shaky Head

Featured Replies

Hey, I've heard this new shaky head thing is pretty cool. Just wondering basically what it is and what I need and how to fish it...THANKS

Shaky head rig is a small jig head usually round with a very sudtly moving bait on it like a zoom trick worm or a senko on it.  The basic idea is to cast out and give as little action as you can to the bait.  almost just let it set at times.  It is a great presentation to use when the fish are not feeding heavily and holding tight to cover like rocks.

A shakey head is not a small jighead, a shakey head is a jighead either round, flat bottom ( stand up ), or football with an oversized hook ( 3,4,5 or even 6/0 hook ), it may or may not have a baitholder.

Reason why it 's called shakey head is because instead of hopping the bait you shake the rod tip several times, this makes the bait quiver.

That link should help.

You can use any jig or 'plastic' you want just as long as it works.

Try several different brands till you figure out which one you like.  I fished Bagleys and Spot Removers today.  I was fishing on sandy/gravely bottom on an incoming tide.  Some how, some way, I lost three Bagleys to snags (and had several more hang up) and lost not one Spot Remover.  Can't figure it out.
