Sports authority has the carbomax rods for $49.00. It looks like they were introduced in 2005. Does anyone have experience with them? They are lightweight and feel very good.

They aint bad i own 1 a  two piece i got there for 10 bucks .that said id never pay 49 for one .They dont have a lifetime warrenty like a convergance or clarus which u can find both for under 50 IMO the convergance is a best buy u can get them for 30 bucks usally and they are nice not so many actions available though .Shimano has lifetime warrenty on these rods along with the clarus .just walk into anystore that sells them and do a exhange no questions asked

They should be alright, but I would step up at least to a Clarus for about $10-20 more. If you wish to have a better comparsion, download shimano's catalog and do a side by side with the Carbo Max to see how it stacks up against its siblings.

I too would not pay $49 for one.

carbomax is a discontinued model, not too bad a rod especially for 10 bucks, i would never buy a 2 piece.  i own 6-12 clarus med, but it fishes like a med light.

my favorite rods are hurricane redbones about $90, i'm sure in the price range there are better, but i like them and much of the money goes to cystic fibrosis.

a few times a year sports authority puts them on sale for 70 and if you have store coupon (10 off if you spend more than 50), makes them a good buy.  i own 6
