Spinning reels & Swimbaits ?

Featured Replies

Can you use a spinning reel say 2500 to 3000 size with small to medium size swim baits. I have a 7' MH Fast spinning rod that I would like to set up for swim baits.

Thanks, John

No problem, but if the lure exceeds the parameters of your rod,

be careful. Lob your lure, don't flick it. The critical point is overloading

the rod tip.

I tried using a 6'6'' MH spinning rod with a BPS Pro Qualifier 4000 wide spool spinning reel a little last year and it worked well for pitching 4.5" soft swimbait into tight places and around boat docks. Used 14 and 20 lb Fireline and had no problem with the hooksets. Don't know if I would want to go to a much smaller reel as I had some big Smallmouths nail this small soft bait and take off on a dead run with it.
