Wake Baits

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a relatively cheap wake bait. I saw one made by River2Sea but wanted to hear something good about it before I bought it or find another one to buy.  I live in Alabama so I don't need all this trout stuff.  I would like to find one shad pattern and one bluegill pattern.

River2Sea makes a good bait and they are not too expensive compared to similar baits from Jackall and others.

The VWake Minnow and VWake 60 Crank are good baits.  I have used both with good success.

The Ima Roumba can't be that popular yet because it just came on the market.

Find some old bomber long A's and shave the lip a little and you have a wake bait.   That will be as cheap as you can get.

Mann's has a new wake bait, they are between 5 and 6 dollars.  I ordered a couple off of their website and love the way they run.  I have only thrown them a couple of times so haven't caught anything yet.  Actually I was only throwing them to see what they ran like and had one hit it right at the boat, suprised me so much that I yanked it away.  They look alot like the Mann's C4 but with a more vertical bill.  They have a pretty cool video on their website too.

You talking about the Baby -1 elites?

You can buy them at walmart for 2.99

Suprised the crap out of me because they are running in that 5 and 6 dollar range online.

Check your walmarts people. Have no clue if they work though. I'll find out in the spring.

I'm not that cheap, but the most I really wanna spend is about 15 bucks or i may go 20.

The classic wake bait is a cotton cordell redfin.

It actually rolls a little bit too

original and jointed floating rapala minnow could both be considered a wake bait (specially the jointed, it barely dives at all). also, ive had tremendous success w/ the bandit footloose...but its more of a crank than a wake bait...but it does have a vertical lip and it does wake the surface. that river2sea v-joint wake looks amazing...been looking at em for a while now, and i asked for some for xmas. i'll let you know how they are if i get em.

oh and then thers the strike king king kong for $30...

I use a Lucky Craft GDS SSR in the ghost minnow color. One of my favorite baits to throw on cloudy days.

I'm looking for a larger hardbait to use as a wakebait.  Not a crankbait like a Footloose but not a big ole' nice swimbait. I have the gear to throw baits up to 2 oz but I dont want a bait like that. I'm talkin more along the lines of 7ft mh slow reel and 15 lb pline cxx.  Durability is the biggest factor in the topic.

To answer your question, its a bait used to move slowly across the surface of the water.

larger bait butnot huge, then i would definitley thro out a river2sea vjoint min wake in the largest size. or get a 6inch king kong...they arent too insanley big.

If i was going to buy one of the king kongs, id buy the larger size of it.  I guess ill try the River2Sea and I'm also going to buy a AC Plug Minnow for my bigger bait rod.  Another question...what pound line are yall gonna throw those Mattlures minnows on?  I'm thinking about throwing it on 17 lb fluorocarbon.  I can't wait to get some of these! I might even go out to a local pond on the way back from the huntin club just to check these out!

If you're looking for a cheap smaller wakebait try the Storm Subwart.  I gave one to Cade, who posts on here, and I think he nicknamed it the Big Nasty or something like that.  They don't look like much, but their action is great. They have this huge, slow wobble combined with loud rattles, and  when they get hit, it's an explosion in the water.

My biggest hit ever came from on of these. I was running it parallel to the outer weedline, and this 5lb pike blasted through the thick weeds like a cannonball from twenty feet away and destroyed that little thing.  Not the biggest fish by any means, but the whole scene was just violent.
